I think the best way for me to even try & describe my experience in Ubud, is to start with the car ride here. Our driver’s name was Ketut and he alone made the fare (only $22 USD) for our ride totally worth it. During the 1 hour & 30 minute drive, he shared an abundance of facts and history about Bali and the Balinese culture. The drive from Kuta to Ubud was such an experience within itself as we drove through about a dozen different villages, all of which specialize in a specific hand crafted good. The main street is lined with rustic workshops and brick stalls where locals display and sell their craft. Village after village we saw magnificent works of art in stone carving, wood carving, egg painting, gold & silver. Some of the most beautiful pieces of furniture, carved doors and paintings I have EVER seen were spotted on this drive to Ubud….absolutely amazing.
The town of Ubud itself is exactly what you envision Bali to be. Narrow streets filled with scooters (yes, we rented one!), fresh juices from exotic fruit, plenty of delicious food, beautiful temples and oh, great shopping 🙂 We weren’t in Ubud but a few hours before we both had fallen hard for this charming yet chaotic town & were immediately thankful we had booked our villa for a week (which is sooo cute by the way).

We are staying about 5 minutes out of town, surrounded by Balinese homes & locals going about there normal day to day work. We LOVE it. We love being a ways out of town where we can relax and take advantage of the peace & quiet (except for the occasional sound of the rooster next door). We rented a scooter for our time here ($25 USD) and love taking it around town. “Scooting” through Bali will be one of my all time favorite memories of this entire trip. It’s such a great way to explore & really see your surroundings. Ubud is a good central location to take half day excursions to some amazing must-sees!

I feel like pictures are the only way to do Ubud justice. It’s hard to believe that we have experienced all of that in only 3 1/2 days. We love this part of Bali so much we are thinking of extending our stay a few extra days so we can continue exploring & crossing the items we want to see & experience off our list! More to come on Ubud…
PEACE, LOVE & BALI xo Brittany
